RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s aid agency, KSrelief, has launched a project aimed at protecting and empowering women affected by gender-based violence in Yemen’s Aden and Taiz governorates.
The initiative, carried out in cooperation with UN Women and Yemen’s Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, will span 12 months and directly benefit 18,000 displaced women and survivors of violence, along with 325 frontline workers at safe spaces and protection centers.
It is also expected to impact approximately 126,000 people indirectly.
The project focuses on enhancing protection for women and girls, improving the capacity of workers dealing with violence cases, expanding psychosocial and legal support, and raising awareness through women’s rights education campaigns.
Dina Zorba, UN Women Yemen representative, expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia and KSrelief for their support and their commitment to women’s empowerment.
She highlighted the integrated approach of the project, which focuses not only on protection but also on restoring dignity, fostering resilience, and empowering women as partners in peace-building and recovery.
In addition, KSrelief has launched another project to distribute 4,012 food baskets to needy individuals in Yemen’s Hadramout governorate, benefiting 28,084 people. Hadramout Undersecretary Amer Al-Amri praised KSrelief’s humanitarian efforts and the Kingdom’s support across various sectors in Yemen.
This project is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader relief efforts to address food shortages and improve living conditions in Yemen.
